Halli Berri
Bold Profile | Medium-dark roast
Tasting Notes: Cocoa, Malt, Caramel
IT ALL STARTS AT THE COFFEE FARM
Halli Berri is proudly women-run and feminist-focused—a remarkable achievement in an industry historically shaped by patriarchal norms. While women make up 70% of the coffee workforce, most rarely receive the recognition or compensation they deserve. The family’s work brings much-needed attention to the inequalities and advocates for fairer prices and better opportunities for women farmers.
Earlier this year, our founders, Anu and Suyog, had the privilege of visiting and staying at Halli Berri. Their time at the estate further deepened our appreciation for the family’s commitment to sustainability and gender equity. We are inspired by their efforts and proud to support their call for change in the coffee industry.

WHY DID WE SELECT THIS COFFEE?
We selected Halli Berri from Chikmagaluru, India, for the second year because of the unforgettable connection we made with Maanvi in New York and the incredible experience of visiting their farm in March 2024. Halli Berri’s commitment to sustainable farming and the lush terroir of the Western Ghats create a coffee that is truly unique. Witnessing firsthand the dedication of their all-women team, and the meticulous care given to their coffee cultivation, reaffirmed our admiration for their work. We’re excited to share this exceptional coffee with our community and support Halli Berri's mission of preserving biodiversity and empowering local women.

HOW DID WE ROAST THIS COFFEE?
This coffee is being roasted by Ian T. from November 4 to November 29 in Brooklyn. We use the Loring Kestrel roaster for this profile. We have strict guidelines for each of the coffee profiles, and this roast has to pass the development time ratio test as measured in real-time by the roasting software, Cropster. Once it does, it is approved for production.
QUALITY CONTROL
We perform Quality Control via a process of coffee tasting called cupping on all of our production roasts once a week at our roastery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Each cupping is conducted by Ian T., Anu M., Suyog M., and James M. using standard equipment, and is logged by our Q-certified cupper Ian T. All coffees are evaluated on a scoring scale of 0 to 3.
- 3.0 = exceptional roast - exceeds expectations
- 2.5 = on par with profile - matches expectations
- 2.0 = good roast, but 1 or 2 elements could be improved - needs improvement
- 1.5 or lower = failed - do not ship
PRODUCTION AND SHIPPING
Less than 24 hours after roasting, we bag your coffee in our production facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Our production team is led by Anthony and Torie, and supported by a rotating cast of local artists, musicians and independent professionals.
