THE BACKSTORY
Driftaway started as a way for us to find meaningful work that we were passionate about, that we could be proud of. And to that effect, we have always wanted to give back somehow to the coffee growers and their communities. But we were never sure how.
Sure, we could donate money to bring them safe water, or shoes, but none of that felt completely right to us. We also didn’t want to just do this for the sake of doing it. We wanted it to be impactful.
Then when we visited coffee farms earlier this year, we heard from farmers first hand how their biggest issue was the uncertainty around coffee growing – drought, pests, and diseases. And so we thought – wouldn’t the best thing be helping them produce better coffee instead? Isn’t that more sustainable in the long term for them?

Breeding the next generation of coffee varieties that are climate resilient, disease and pest resistant, high producing, and truly high quality. Improved coffee varieties can increase a farmer’s yield include by up to 50%.
